Understanding the structure and format of the GMAT
Part of what makes tests like the GMAT scary is that they are unknown. You are probably used to taking traditional tests and examinations in college. But how many times have you taken a computer adaptive test (CAT)? Although the answer right now may be never, by the time you are finished with your inlingua GMAT course, computer adaptive tests won’t seem scary at all. That’s because an important part of every inlingua Test Preparation course is extensive diagnostic and practice testing. The more familiar you are with the structure and format of the test, the more relaxed you will be on test day. And the more relaxed you feel on test day, the better you are likely to perform on the GMAT.
Dealing with difficult test questions
Another key to succeeding on the GMAT is understanding that encountering difficult questions on the test is a good thing! That’s because the more questions you answer correctly, the more difficult the questions become. And more difficult questions mean more points. But don’t panic if you find yourself halfway through the test and keep getting questions that seem easy. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re not doing well. It could just mean that you’re very well prepared. Many questions that seem difficult before beginning your inlingua GMAT course will seem simple by test day.
And keep in mind that all throughout the GMAT many unscored experimental questions appear that are unrelated to how well you’re doing on the test. The bottom line: never try to predict your performance on the test based solely on your impression of how difficult the questions appear. Questions that most other test takers find challenging might seem easy to you because you took the time to fully prepare for the test.
Being refreshed on Test Day
One final key to succeeding on the GMAT is being refreshed and mentally ready on test day. Think you should spend the night before the test cramming to memorize a few more mathematical formulas? Think again! Experience has shown that studying the night before the test has little positive effect on your final score—if you have already taken the time to adequately prepare for the test. After completing a thorough inlingua GMAT course, you will be more than ready to tackle the GMAT on test day. Your best bet is to relax the day before the test, get a great night’s sleep, and apply the skills and strategies you’ve learned in your course to conquer the GMAT and get the score you need for business school success.
